Ahmet Zappa is the son of the late musician Frank Zappa and his wife, Gail Zappa. Frank Zappa was a highly influential musician and composer who gained fame in the 1960s and 1970s. For his innovative blend of rock, jazz, and classical music. He released over 60 albums throughout his career before passing away from cancer in 1993.
Ahmet has two siblings: his older sister Moon Unit Zappa, who is also a musician and writer, and his younger brother Dweezil Zappa, who is a musician and has continued to perform his father’s music in live shows.
He has been married twice. His first marriage was to actress Selma Blair in 2004, but they divorced in 2006. Ahmet later married his current wife, Shana Muldoon Zappa, in 2010. Shana is a screenwriter, producer, and director, known for her work on movies such as “Fifty Pills” (2006) and “The Watch” (2012).
The couple has two children together, a son named Halo and a daughter named Arrow. They have been together for over a decade and continue to lead successful careers in the entertainment industry.
Ahmet Zappa Career
Ahmet Zappa has had a diverse career in the entertainment industry. He started his career as an actor, appearing in movies such as “Pump Up the Volume” (1990) and “Jack Frost” (1997) before shifting his focus towards music.
In the mid-1990s, Ahmet formed a band called “Z” with his brother, Dweezil Zappa, and a few other musicians. The band released two albums, “Shampoo horn” (1994) and “Music for Pets” (1996), and went on tour.
Ahmet is also a writer and has authored several books, including “The Monstrous Memoirs of a Mighty McFearless” (2006), a children’s book that was later adapted into an animated film. He has also worked as a television host and producer, and has appeared on several TV shows, including “Robotica” and “But Can They Sing?”.
In addition to his music and writing careers, Ahmet has worked as a producer and executive for various film and television projects. He served as a producer on the movies “The Odd Life of Timothy Green” (2012) and “Mortdecai” (2015), and was an executive producer for the TV series “Forky Asks a Question” (2019). Ahmet Zappa Zappa Family Trust
After the death of his mother, Gail, it was revealed that Ahmet and his sister Diva were given control of the Zappa Family Trust with shares of 30% each. His siblings Moon and Dweezil were given smaller shares of 20% each.
Their uneven divide of the trust has resulted in several conflicts between Zappa’s children. This included a feud between Dweezil and Ahmet over Dweezil’s use of his father’s music in live performances.
The trust proposed a trademark on the name Zappa under Ahmet’s direction which would then prevent Dweezil from using the name for commercial purposes without authorization.
Dweezil toured with an act called Zappa Plays Zappa, playing his father’s music since 2006. The trust then sought to collect a fee from Dweezil for continued use of the name, and as well as proceeds from merchandise sold at Zappa Plays Zappa concerts.
