Amanda Cox Biography
Amanda Cox is an American journalist and data editor. She is best known for her work at The New York Times. Growing up in Kansas City, Missouri in the heart of tornado alley. Her interest in weather sparked at a very early age and made her want to learn more.
Cox attended Indiana University and earned a degree in journalism in 2002. She started her career as a graphics editor at the St. Louis Post-Dispatch. Where she worked for three years before joining The New York Times in 2005.
At The New York Times. Cox began as a graphics editor and quickly rose through the ranks to become the paper’s first-ever data editor in 2014. In this role, she oversaw a team of journalists who were responsible for analyzing and presenting data in a way that was both accessible and informative to readers.
In addition to her work at The New York Times, Cox is a frequent speaker and instructor on data visualization and data journalism. She has taught courses at the Parsons School of Design, Columbia University, and the University of California, Berkeley.
