Dan Bowens Biography
Dan Bowens is an American anchor and three-time Emmy Award-winning reporter at FOX flagship station, WNYW-TV in New York. Bowens attended college at Ohio Wesleyan. Bowens has worked at WINK-TV in Fort Myers, Florida, and KEPR-TV in the Tri-Cities, Washington. He also worked at WRAL-TV in Raleigh, NC where he won two regional Emmy Awards.
Bowens has been active in the community, volunteering his time at schools and other community organizations. He also served as Master of Ceremonies for numerous events, including at the famed Apollo Theatre in Harlem, and the annual Cultural Awareness Salute Gala with the Black Culinary Association.

Bowens comes from a long line of journalists. His grandfather was an anchor at a Los Angeles TV station. Bowens’ father is a videotape editor and his mom was a producer. His brother, Ben, is an online editor at CBS 3 in Philadelphia. His family then inspired him with support and a lot of tough love.
Bowens is the stepson of Byron Pitts who works as a contributor for 60 Minutes and is the chief national correspondent for The CBS Evening News with Katie Couric.

- Abe Lebewohl (1996): “A Holocaust survivor and owner of the 2nd Ave Deli who was shot and killed while making a bank deposit. So many longtime employees here at Fox 5 remember Abe and this case. He was the type of guy who would bring food around to all the newsrooms in the city on holidays. A big-hearted person who gave food to the homeless and then one day, someone took it all away.”
- Sarah Fox (2004): “She was a 21-year-old Juilliard student found dead in a remote area of Inwood Hill Park in Upper Manhattan. There have been so many twists and turns in this case … and still no answers. A detective with NYPD’s Cold Case squad tells us about a new approach to this investigation.”
- Jamal Gaines (2016): “From the time he was a boy he collected vintage sneakers like Air Jordans. By the time he was 21 years old, he had opened his own store in Rahway, NJ, and business was booming. Then one day, after hours, two masked gunmen entered the store and shot him. The murder was caught on video.”
- The New Milford Murder (1985): “A senior citizen in New Milford, Conn., was stabbed to death inside his home. A brutal killing — blood sprayed up the walls and onto the ceiling. Two men who were teenagers at the time of the killing were convicted of the crime. For 30 years they maintained their innocence, and now the Connecticut supreme court is taking a second look at their case. Turns out, a big focus is the testimony of criminologist Henry Lee.”
