Deborah Yates is an American dancer and actress. She was born in Jacksonville, Texas, on June 5, 1970. Yates began dancing at the age of 6 and moved to Austin, Texas, at the age of 16 to study dance. She returned to Jacksonville for her senior year of high school.
After graduating from high school, Yates attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, where she studied communications. She also danced with the SMU Dance Company. After graduating from SMU, Yates moved to Chicago and danced with the Hubbard Street Dance Company. She then gained her Equity card by performing on a cruise ship for 6 months.
In 1994, Yates moved to New York City and joined The Rockettes. She stayed with the Rockettes for 4 years before making her Broadway debut as a swing in the 1997 revue show Dream also starring Lesley Ann Warren.
In 1998, Yates was cast in the lead role of “The Girl in the Yellow Dress” in the Broadway dance show Contact. The show was a critical and commercial success, and Yates was nominated for the Tony Award for Best Featured Actress in a Musical in 2000.
After Contact, Yates continued to work in theater, appearing in shows such as The Full Monty, The Drowsy Chaperone, and Legally Blonde. She has also appeared in films and television shows, including National Treasure, Deception, and Grand Theft Auto IV.
