At Cincinnati, Ohio’s WKRC-TV, Grande started his broadcasting career in 1969 as a sports anchor and reporter. Before joining ESPN in 1980, he later worked at WJZ-TV in Baltimore and WBBM-TV in Chicago.
One of the most famous faces on ESPN, Grande hosted a number of other shows in addition to SportsCenter and became an anchor for “SportsLook,” “SportsNight,” and “SportsWeekly.” He also provided play-by-play commentary for other sports, such as baseball, basketball, and tennis.
In 1989, Grande quit ESPN to work as the Cincinnati Reds’ play-by-play commentator. He worked as a commentator for the New York Yankees and the St. Louis Cardinals in addition to holding that post for 17 years.
