John Schlesinger was a British film and theater director, best known for his work in the 1960s and 1970s. He was born on February 16, 1926, in London, England. And passed away on July 25, 2003, in Palm Springs, California, United States.
Schlesinger began his career as a theater director, working in London’s West End and at the Royal Shakespeare Company. He made his feature film debut with the 1962 drama “A Kind of Loving.” Which was a critical and commercial success.
He followed this up with a series of acclaimed films in the 1960s and 1970s, including “Billy Liar” (1963), “Darling” (1965), “Far from the Madding Crowd” (1967), and “Midnight Cowboy” (1969), which won three Academy Awards, including Best Director.
Schlesinger continued to direct films throughout the 1970s and 1980s, including “Sunday Bloody Sunday” (1971), “Marathon Man” (1976), and “Yanks” (1979).
