Lauren Lake Biography

Lauren Lake better known as Judge Lauren is an American family lawyer, talk show host, television personality, author, interior designer, real estate developer, and background singer. She also offers consultancy in legal, relationship, and life matters.

She presides as a judge over her own tabloid talk and nontraditional courtroom series, Paternity Court. Lauren has also performed in guest hosting and news anchoring positions for various talk shows and reality legal programs.

Lake has made regular guest appearances on Dr. Phil and The View as a legal expert. She has made other television appearances including The Today Show, The O’Reilly Factor, The Bill Cunningham Show, Regis & Kelly, Montel Williams, and The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet.  Lauren has also served as a guest host/anchor and legal analyst for MSNBC and TruTV. She has been a regular on-air commentator for various news programs on CNN, Headline News, Fox News Channel, and CNBC since 2005.

She attended Mercy High School in Farmington Hills, Michigan, and was honored as a National Merit Scholar in 1986. She earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor, Michigan on May 1990. That same year, Lake earned a secondary teacher certification. She then earned a Juris Doctor from Wayne State University Law School in Detroit, Michigan in May 1993.

Lake was admitted to the State Bar of Michigan in June 1995. She began her career as a criminal defense attorney. She was also admitted to the State Bar of New York and the State Bar of New Jersey in June 2002. There, her practice is predominantly devoted to entertainment and family law. After graduating from law school, she also pursued her creative passions and began designing professionally.

She relocated to New York City in 1999, determined to establish herself as an entertainer. Lake began securing jobs singing background for multi-platinum selling artists, such as Mary J. Blige, Sean “Puff Daddy” Combs, Jay-Z, Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg, among others. She eventually began writing and recording her own music and performing throughout the New York metropolitan area. She has also produced album projects and secured label record deals for artists who are signed to her production company.

Lauren was selected out of thousands of women to appear on the series On To Live and Date in New York. The series chronicled the dating lives of independent and single New York women. It developed a wide local following and this made the Women’s Entertainment Channel air it nationally as “Single in the City.”

Lake served as a correspondent, expert and life coach for The Greg Behrendt Show, where she helped guests navigate through dating dilemmas, career changes, and domestic disputes. On The Ricki Lake Show, she served as the legal and relationship expert and life coach. For two seasons, she delivered advice on a myriad of social and legal issues. She also served as a field correspondent, makeover specialist, and a judge.

She has engaged in many intense discussions on complex issues facing the African-American community as a regular contributor to Meet the Faith and My Two Cents.

Lake pursued her interior decorating interests in the entertainment industry hence participating in TLC shows such as While You Were Out and Trading Spaces. From May 2007 to 2009, she hosted 47 episodes of HGTV’s hit how-to show Spice Up My Kitchen. There, she specialized in turning ordinary kitchens into kitchens of style.

Lake presides over her own tabloid talk/courtroom series, Paternity Court. She hears and rules on paternity cases and renders DNA test results. The series premiered on Monday, September 23, 2013. It was renewed for a second season on January 28, 2014. This added Lake’s name directly to the title as Lauren Lake’s Paternity Court.

The series is a half-hour hybrid of a talk show using the court show plaintiff and defendant format. It only focuses on one case per episode. Lauren takes time before and after the results to speak with her litigants.

Lake’s first book “Girl! Let Me Tell You…,” was published in 2009. In the book, she empowers single women to never settle for anything less than what they deserve in life and in love. It deals with everything from men, dating, and relationships to expectations, feelings of loneliness, and the pursuit of dreams.

Lauren is also a highly sought after speaker and lecturer. She provides keynote addresses for countless social, civic, business, legal, and student organizations across the country. Dr. Bill Cosby selected Lake as a motivational speaker on his nationwide Call Out tour after witnessing Lake advocating dynamically for victims of Hurricane Katrina. The tour reaches out to encourage and uplift inner-city communities. She is also featured in Cosby’s book Come on, People: On the Path from Victims to Victor.

Lauren Lake was the vice president of DS Recordings Inc., where she discovered, signed, and developed new talent. She has also been the co-owner of L Style Design Studios, LLC, in Fort Lee, N.J since September 2000. She has also run the Law Offices of Lauren Lake, located in New York, New York, Saddlebrook, New Jersey, and Southfield, Michigan since 2006.

Lauren Lake is the co-founder of the Women in Entertainment Empowerment Network (WEEN). WEEN is determined to promote the positive portrayal of women in entertainment and society through nationwide mentoring and outreach programs for young women.
