Lauren Pastrana Biography
Lauren Pastrana is an American Emmy nominated, multimedia journalist for CBS4. She serves as the co-anchor of CBS4 News This Morning airing Monday-Friday, from 4:30 to 7 AM.
Pastrana has experience in television, radio and web-based news reporting. She attended Pine Crest School in Fort Lauderdale. She later joined the University of Florida where she graduated Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Telecommunications and a Minor in Leadership.
She was also awarded the Four-Year Scholar Award, a distinction bestowed to those who graduate at the top of their class. She anchored and reported for WUFT-TV. She was also part of the team responsible for launching a Spanish-language web-based news service targeting Alachua and the surrounding counties titled AM850: Noticias en Español.
While still studying at the University of Florida, Pastrana got a job as a weekend news anchor at Newsradio 610WIOD in Miramar. She spent her last 2 years of college driving from Gainesville to South Florida every weekend to anchor the news on the radio.

After graduating, Pastrana turned down a few television news jobs in other smaller cities for a chance to go to her hometown South Florida and anchor the news full time at WIOD. At WIOD, she covered everything from Super Bowl XLIV to local political corruption. Pastrana also spent a season as an in-stadium reporter for the show “Miami Dolphins Game Day Live.”

Pastrana is married to her husband J.C. The couple met at a club on South Beach. Pastrana says she was instantly drawn to her husband’s smile and they danced the night away. Though J.C was going to college in New Jersey, the couple still stayed in touch. Pastrana and her husband have a son, Jordan together.
In February 2019, Lauren and her family were that month’s cover models for “Miami Kids Magazine.” Miami Kids Magazine provides tips and information for parents in South Florida, profiles Lauren’s career and family life with her husband J.C. and son Jordan.
The February/March issue of Miami Kids Magazine focuses on Family and Love just in time for Valentine’s Day. “You can show love by being supportive, encouraging, helpful and kind,” Lauren said. “Remember, it’s also important to love yourself so you can be the best person you can be for those you love most.”

Pastrana joined CBS Miami in April 2012 as a reporter. When she first became a member of the CBS4 family, she was also doing double duty as the morning news anchor at Newsradio 610 WIOD. After many months of very limited sleep, Lauren became a fulltime weekday evening reporter on CBS4.

About her success in her journalism career, Lauren has stated that “The journey to success looks different for everyone. That’s because of how we define success varies. Choose your own definition and chase that.” Lauren says that the more serious she got serious with broadcasting, the more she learned about its many demands.
She once talked about her experience as an anchor for CBS 4 explaining, “Being an anchor at CBS 4 is exciting, challenging, exhausting, and fulfilling all in one. It’s exciting because every day is different. The news is constantly changing, and so are the newsmakers. I wake up each day and don’t really know what the day may bring or who I may meet. While a large part of my workday is spent behind the anchor desk, I also love to go out into the field and report on the stories that matter to our community.
The job is also challenging for those exact same reasons. The trick is to stay flexible and constantly do your homework so you’re prepared no matter what story pops up. It’s exhausting because I wake up at 1:45 am each day and often go to bed late in order to spend time with my family. Finally, it’s fulfilling because I leave each day feeling as though I have served a purpose. I’ve informed people. I’ve entertained them. And hopefully, I’ve helped make their lives a bit easier in the process.”
She has a passion for her work and she has given advice to students who also want to pursue a similar career to hers. She has said: “It’s never too early to start. With social media and smartphones, everyone is a journalist. Document whatever is happening around you. Start a blog. Create a Twitter account. Talk to everyone and find something about them that would make for a good story.
