Russ Spencer Biography
Russ Spencer is an American veteran journalist who works for FOX 5 Atlanta. He has worked in the TV News business since 1983, spanning states from Pennsylvania, to North Carolina to Colorado before landing in Atlanta.
Spencer took a break from television to teach school and work as a freelance journalist in Central America.
He also became fluent in Spanish and had hoped to become a foreign correspondent but fate had other plans for Russ.
Spencer attended Princeton University from where he graduated with a degree in English Literature. This came in handy from time to time — to the surprise and relief of his parents.

Spencer was born to Russell B. Spencer, Jr. of Malvern and Clare. His parents crossed paths at DuPont Company where his father first worked and later got married in 1958. His father at the age of 90 died on 18 September 2016 at his home. He died after a brave, and thankfully brief, battle with leukemia. Spencer said that his father was in good spirits until the end, full of faith, surrounded by the people who love him.

Spencer’s grandparents were Russ Sr. and Blanche who had built a home at the end of Poplar Avenue on what is now Radnor Street Road in 1925, a year before Russell B. Spencer, Jr. was born.
She has a sister Susan who is married to Eric. Through Susan, Spencer has two nieces Julia and Sophia.

Spencer is married and together with his wife they have six children. With his family, he lives in Alpharetta. He met his wife at a classroom next door while he was a teacher.

Spencer anchors the 6 p.m. and 10 p.m. news on FOX 5 Atlanta. He was in Central America to report on the historic vote overthrowing the Sandinistas in Nicaragua in 1990. He has also reported from the Middle East – briefly.
He used to play a lot of golf and tennis. Spencer now watches his kids play ball and has become an expert at singing the songs on Teletubbies, Barney, and The Wiggles from memory.
Spencer received 11 Regional Emmy awards during his time in Atlanta, including seven for Best Newscast and two for Best Anchor.
