Tyron Woodley Biography
Tyron Woodley is an American mixed martial artist and former professional boxer. He is of African-American descent and grew up in a family of 13 siblings. Woodley attended the University of Missouri, where he was a standout wrestler and earned All-American honors. After college, he began training in mixed martial arts (MMA) and made his professional debut in 2009.

Woodley was born the 11 of 13 children born to Deborah and Sylvester Woodley. His father left the family early in Tyron’s early life and was raised by his mother. He was a two-sport athlete, competing in American football and amateur wrestling in high school.

Woodley began his professional MMA career in 2009 and quickly made a name for himself with his explosive knockout power and strong wrestling ability. He signed with the UFC in 2013 and won his debut fight against Jay Hieron via knockout in the first round.
Woodley went on to have a successful UFC career, winning the welterweight championship in 2016 with a first-round knockout of Robbie Lawler. He successfully defended his title four times against top contenders such as Stephen Thompson, Demian Maia, and Darren Till.
In 2019, Woodley lost the welterweight title to Kamaru Usman by unanimous decision. He would go on to lose his next three fights against Gilbert Burns, Colby Covington, and Vicente Luque, respectively.
Woodley retired from MMA in 2021 with a professional record of 19 wins, 7 losses, and 1 no contest. He is also known for his acting and music career outside of the octagon.
