The Chief of Defense Forces, Francis Ogolla, whose full name is Francis Omondi Ogolla, who took office on April 13, 2023, was also confirmed to be among the helicopter crash casualties in Kaban, Marakwet East, on Thursday, April 18, 2024.
Francis Ogolla Education
Gen. Ogolla graduated from both the École Militaire de Paris and the National Defense College of Kenya. He has a Diploma in International Studies and Military Science from Egerton University, a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science, Defense, and Peace Studies (First Class Honors), and a Master of Arts in International Studies from the University of Nairobi.

Having served with the military for almost four decades, Ogolla has shown the conduct of an undaunted professional, earnestness, and personal growth. He was respected among his peers as well as subordinates for his brilliant command and strategic experience. Having started as a young private and worked all the way to the General, he was appointed Major General and served as Commander of the Kenya Air Force for three years, from July 15, 2018.Â
His former jobs entailed Deputy Commander at the Kenya Air Force, Base Commander at the Laikipia Air Base, and Commanding Officer of the Tactical Fighter Wing. Besides that, he held positions like Chief Flying Instructor at Kenya Air Force Flying Training School and Operations Desk Officer at Kenya Air Force Headquarters. Besides, he was an observer and a military information officer in the former Yugoslavia between 1992 and 1993, a chairman of the Military Christian Fellowship up to 2004, and the co-chair of the Association of African Air Chiefs from 2018 to 2019.

A military helicopter that was ferrying Chief of Defense Forces Gen. Francis Ogolla crashed on Thursday morning, April 18, 2024, along the border on the Kaben-Cheptulel between Elgeyo-Marakwet and West Pokot. The helicopter had 9 passengers on board when it crashed down.
