Bush had a standout freshman season in 2016, playing in all 13 games and recording 47 tackles, including 5 tackles for loss, and one sack. He was named to the Freshman All-American team and was also a Big Ten All-Freshman team selection.

In 2017, Bush was even more impressive, earning first-team All-Big Ten honors and being named a consensus All-American. He led the Wolverines with 95 tackles, including 10 tackles for loss, 5 sacks, and one interception. He also forced three fumbles and recovered two.

Bush continued his dominant play in 2018, recording 80 tackles, 9.5 tackles for loss, and 5 sacks in just 10 games before suffering a season-ending injury. He was once again named a first-team All-Big Ten selection and a consensus All-American.

After his junior season, Bush decided to forego his senior year and enter the 2019 NFL Draft, where he was selected by the Pittsburgh Steelers with the 10th overall pick.

The Pittsburgh Steelers originally acquired this selection in a trade with the Denver Broncos, trading their first round selection (20th), their 2019 second round selection, and 2020 third round pick to Denver.
