Jay Roach Biography
Jay Roach is an American film and television director, producer, and screenwriter, known for his work in the comedy genre.
Roach graduated from El Dorado High School in Albuquerque and then attended Stanford University, where he earned a degree in economics. After graduation, he went on to study filmmaking at the University of Southern California’s School of Cinematic Arts.
Roach started his career as a producer and director of television movies, including the critically acclaimed biographical drama “The Positively True Adventures of the Alleged Texas Cheerleader-Murdering Mom” (1993), which starred Holly Hunter. He later went on to direct several successful comedies, including the Austin Powers trilogy (1997-2002), “Meet the Parents” (2000), and “Meet the Fockers” (2004), which starred Ben Stiller and Robert De Niro.
Roach has also worked extensively in television, directing and producing numerous episodes of the popular political comedy series “Veep,” for which he won two Primetime Emmy Awards for Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series.
He also produced and directed the HBO movie “Recount” (2008), which chronicled the events surrounding the 2000 U.S. presidential election and won several awards, including three Primetime Emmy Awards.
