Tony Orlando is an American singer, songwriter, and entertainer. He is also known for the group Tony Orlando and Dawn and their 1970s hits. His birth name is Michael Anthony Orlando Cassavitis. Orlando grew up in the Hell’s Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan, and his interest in music began at a young age.

He formed his first vocal group, The Five Gents, when he was only 15 years old. In 1960, he recorded his first single, “Halfway to Paradise,” which became a regional hit.

He is the son of a Greek father named Leonidas Cassavitis and a Puerto Rican mother named Ruth Estrella.

Tony Orlando & Dawn was a popular American pop music group that was active during the 1970s. The group consisted of three members: Tony Orlando, Telma Hopkins, and Joyce Vincent Wilson.

Tony Orlando had previously been a successful solo artist, but he teamed up with Hopkins and Wilson in 1970 to form Tony Orlando & Dawn. The group’s first hit was “Candida,” which reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in 1970. They followed this up with a string of successful singles, including “Knock Three Times,” “Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree,” and “Say, Has Anybody Seen My Sweet Gypsy Rose.”

“Knock Three Times” and “Tie a Yellow Ribbon Round the Ole Oak Tree” were both No. 1 hits in the United States, and “Tie a Yellow Ribbon” became an enduring cultural touchstone, representing homecoming and welcome for soldiers returning from war.

Tony Orlando & Dawn also had their own television variety show, “Tony Orlando and Dawn,” which aired from 1974 to 1976.

The group disbanded in 1977, and Tony Orlando went on to a successful career as a solo artist and television personality. Telma Hopkins and Joyce Vincent Wilson continued to work as musicians and actresses.
