Christof Putzel Biography
Christof Putzel is an award-winning investigative journalist and documentary filmmaker. The DuPont Award-winning journalist is a former correspondent for Al Jazeera America’s news magazine America Tonight.
He attended the University of Vermont, where he received a degree in political science.
After graduation, Putzel began his career in journalism as a researcher for NBC News in New York City. He later worked as a producer for CNN, where he covered major news events such as the 9/11 attacks and the war in Iraq. In 2005, he joined Al Jazeera English as a correspondent, where he reported on a wide range of stories from around the world.
In 2008, Putzel joined Current TV, where he hosted and produced the investigative documentary series “Vanguard.” During his time at Current TV, he produced over 50 hours of programming, covering topics such as the drug war in Mexico, the rise of neo-Nazism in Europe, and the environmental impact of oil drilling in the Arctic.
In 2013, Putzel joined “60 Minutes Sports” as a correspondent, where he reported on stories ranging from sports doping scandals to the exploitation of college athletes. He has won numerous awards for his reporting, including a News & Documentary Emmy, a Peabody Award, and a duPont-Columbia Award.
In recent years, Putzel has continued to work as an investigative journalist and documentary filmmaker, producing work for outlets such as National Geographic, HBO, and Netflix. He is known for his fearless reporting and his commitment to uncovering the truth behind complex and controversial stories.
