Smith met television personality Ashley Martson while in Jamaica. Martson had attended a wedding in Jamaica when she met Smith at a club with a few of her girlfriends. Though Martson did not expect to her from Smith again. He tracked her down via social media and he proposed six months later when she returned to visit him.
Martson revealed that Smith had lied his age to be 26 instead of 20. He went ahead cheating on Martson.
Martson filed for divorce from Smith in January 2019 but then withdrew her filing just a couple of weeks later. She then filed for divorce for a second time in April 2019.

Jay was slapped with a Protection From Abuse order after breaking into Martson property while she was on vacation. The PFA meant that he couldn’t post about her or their situation on social media. He proceeded to post about the PFA on his Instagram story, immediately violating the order.
After learning that there was a a warrant out for his arrest Smith turned himself in to the authorities on 3 July 2019.
Jay continues to be detained by ICE at the York County Jail in Pennsylvania until his next PFA hearing on 17 July 2019. Smith risks deportation for the violation.

A close friend to smith launched a GoFundMe on his behalf in hopes of obtaining a lawyer to help him secure his release from an Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center.
The fundraiser states that Smith “turned himself in to authorities” on 2 July 2019 with the understanding and intent that he was to see a judge the next morning and be released.
He is hoping that the money raised can help him pay for an attorney as it is “the only way for him to sooner see a judge” and “to avoid deportation from the U.S.”
He also “fears for his life if he is returned to Jamaica.” According to the GoFundMe, “he is now seen as a traitor who has turned his back on his people and they will assume he has money since he was in America and on an American TV show so that keeps him at continuously high threat for his safety if he is returned home.”
